Mrs. Olsen's 4th Grade Blog

Welcome back to a new school year!

This will be a weekly reminder of what is coming up in the following week.  I will send it out as an email to the parents on Fridays.

General reminders:
1.  Binders should come back and forth to school everyday with your child.  Please check their binders for homework.
2. Make sure chromebooks are charged before coming to school everyday.
3.  Please do not hesitate to email me with any questions or concerns you have with your child. jolsen@ccsd66.org

This is what we will be working on the for the week of September 30- October 4!

Spelling:
This week we will be working on greek roots.  We will be practicing and learning these words throughout the week.  The test will be Friday, October 4.

English:
We have been practicing and learning about different types of sentences this week.  They had homework go home this week as well.  We will continue learning about sentence structure as well next week.

Reading:
We will be finishing up the poem titled "Casey at the Bat".  We will be comparing this poem to another poem next week and discussing the differences and similarities. We will also touch on perspective which will be a fun, writing activity we will do next week.

Social Studies/Science:
We have been learning all about the Northeast region.   We will be reviewing chapter 4 next week.  Will look to have chapter 4 test the following week, October 7-11.  Will let you know as soon as I schedule it.

Mrs. Olsen's Math Class:
We had our first quiz this week.  The students did pretty well on it.  You should have seen it come home and returned it signed.  I will be doing this for all their quizzes and tests.  So, plan on looking at them and returning them signed each time.  We will  have Unit 1 test on Monday, September 30.  We  reviewed today and they will be bringing home their pre-assessment and their study guide to use to study off of.  If you remember from curriculum night the pre-assessment is very similar to the test. So, please use that to help study.  They all felt like they did well on the study guide.  I think they were impressed to see how much growth they had from the pre-assessment to the study guide.  Please look for those in their binders today.

Important Info:

October 2- Early dismissal day- students will be dismissed at 11:00 and will not eat lunch here.

Have a great weekend!
