Mrs. Olsen's 4th Grade Blog

Welcome back to a new school year!

This will be a weekly reminder of what is coming up in the following week.  I will send it out as an email to the parents on Fridays.

General reminders:
1.  Binders should come back and forth to school everyday with your child.  Please check their binders for homework.
2. Make sure chromebooks are charged before coming to school everyday.
3.  Please do not hesitate to email me with any questions or concerns you have with your child. jolsen@ccsd66.org

This is what we will be working on the for the week of September 23-27!

Spelling:
This week we will be working on words that get mixed up frequently, such as to, too, and two and their, they're and there.  We will be practicing and learning these words throughout the week.  The test will be Friday, September 27.

English:
We will continue with the topic of reviewing what makes a good sentence.  We will be focusing on sentence structure.  You will see some homework come home next week practicing these ideas.  This is important to use all year and all the time!

Reading:
We are continuing with the poem titled "Casey at the Bat".  We have talked about the setting and dug deep into reading and understanding it. Next week we will work on some vocabulary words with it and trying to find the meaning of words we don't know in the text.  Strategies that can help us decipher unknown words in texts we read.

Social Studies/Science:
We have been learning all about the Northeast region.   We learned about resources in the Northeast this week.  We will be reading about the sea around the Northeast and all the benefits it brings to the Northeast.

Mrs. Olsen's Math Class:
We will have our first quiz on Tuesday, September 24.  The homework on Monday night will be a review for the material that will be on the quiz.  So, please go through that with them to make sure they are ready for the quiz.  Bridges calls the quizzes checkpoints, just an FYI, that is what it will say at the top of the quiz.  I told the students they are allowed to use their math spiral that we have taken notes in for quizzes and tests.  So, hopefully they are taking good notes!   We will also have Unit 1 test on Monday, September 30.  We will review next Friday and they will be bringing home their pre-assessment and their study guide to use as a study guide.  If you remember from curriculum night the pre-assessment is very similar to the test. So, please use that to help study.

Important Info:

We have one last common reading assessment next week we will be doing in class on their chromebooks, so please make sure they come everyday charged.

Have a great weekend!
