Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room! 









  Reading 
We read a story this week called Bear's Loose Tooth.  February is dental health month- so perfect story to talk about how to take care of your teeth!  We watched a video, made a graph of our teeth, did some comparing and contrasting of teeth stories, and did a fun craft today about teeth  Some vocab words we learned this week were: nibbled, savored, gulped, frowned, and welled. 

Jolly Phonics 
Since jolly phonics is over we are practicing a little more with our popcorn words- putting the words into sentences; we started practicing writing the words in sentences- good practice for them!  We will continue to focus on word families and blends till the end of the year as well.  This week we learned about the word family -en.  We added 3 popcorn words- "four", "five" and "said".  Please practice the popcorn words at home. :) 

Math 
  We started topic 10 this week practicing writing number sentences from 11-20.  Centers this week we practiced recognizing numbers 11-20, writing 5-100 by 5's, and some addition sentences.  

Writing/ Handwriting 
We practiced the letter Yy and Vv in handwriting this week.  We made a book this week for Kaden K. since he is our star student.





Next week is Dr. Seuss week- a sheet was sent home earlier this week with all the fun activities we will be doing for Dr. Seuss.  

A project was sent home today as well for St. Patrick's Day project to with your child- have fun and return by Monday, March 9.  Thanks!

Please remember to send in a HEALTHY snack for your child- cookies and treats are not healthy snacks.  It needs to be a 100%juice, fruits or vegetables preferably, otherwise crackers or something like that.

Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room! 













  Reading 
We read a story this week called If I Were President.  It is a fictional story about what a kids perspective would be if he or she were president.  It was cute!  We practiced doing a speech in front of the class saying what each child would do if they were President.  These were pretty funny!  Some vocab words we learned this week were: preserve, protect, defend, mansion, speech and comfort. 

Jolly Phonics 
Since jolly phonics is over we are practicing a little more with our popcorn words- putting the words into sentences; we will be adding soon- writing the words in sentences too.  We will continue to focus on word families and blends till the end of the year as well.  This week we learned about the word family -et.  We added 3 popcorn words- "one", "two" and "three".  Please practice the popcorn words at home. :) 

Math 
  We finished topic 9 this week focusing on different ways to make addition sentences from 4-9.  We will start topic 10 next week on composing numbers 11-19.  Centers this week we practiced sequencing numbers from 51-100, subtracting, and some addition and subtraction sentences.  We did 2 fun math activities on the computer today- look for the Abraham Lincoln and 2015 picture in your child's folder so they can tell you about it. :)

Writing/ Handwriting 
We practiced the letter Hh and a review page in handwriting this week.  We made a Abraham Lincoln hat and head today and wrote about what we would keep in our hat. :)

Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room! 











  Reading 
We read a story this week called National Geographic Kids- Penguins.  It is a non-fiction story all about penguins. We learned lots of cool information about penguins!  Some vocab words we learned this week were: barb, coast, colony, equator, marine mammals and webbed. 

Jolly Phonics 
We learned about the letters "er" and "ar".  Ask your child about the sounds and actions that go with those letters.  This was the last of the jolly phonics sounds for the year.  We will be focusing on word families and blends till the end of the year.  This week we learned about the word family -ap.  We added 3 popcorn words- "look", "good" and "jump".  Please practice the popcorn words at home. :) 

Math 
  We continued with topic 9 this week focusing on different ways to make addition sentences from 4-9.  We did some more winter math activities during our center time that involved addition and subtraction and more counting from different spots.

Writing/ Handwriting 
We practiced the letter Mm in handwriting this week.  We made a really fun penguin craft and writing activity today!  They are hanging up in the room and came out great!  We even watched a short informational movie about penguins as well.  We did make a book this week for Aubrey K. since she was our star student.



The 100th day project came out great!  Thanks for sending those in! :)

Next week we do not have school on Friday,February 13 and we have an early dismissal on Wednesday, February 11.  So, it is a short week! 

Thursday, February 12 we will be having our Valentine parties.  If you are sending in Valentines for the students- please do not put names on the envelopes- the students cannot read all the names of the students and it would take too long to try to pass all those out.  They can bring in 20 cards that they signed for each student.
