Mrs. Olsen's 4th Grade Blog

Welcome back to a new school year!

This will be a weekly reminder of what is coming up in the following week.  I will send it out as an email to the parents on Fridays.

General reminders:
1.  Binders should come back and forth to school everyday with your child.  Please check their binders for homework.
2. Make sure chromebooks are charged before coming to school everyday.
3.  Please do not hesitate to email me with any questions or concerns you have with your child. jolsen@ccsd66.org

This is what we will be working on the for the week of September 9-13!

Spelling:
This week we will be working on words that have the suffixes  -ible, and -able.  We will be practicing and learning these words throughout the week.  The test will be Friday, September 13.

English:
We will begin the year with the topic of reviewing what makes a good sentence.  We will be focusing on sentence structure.  This is important to use all year and all the time!

Reading:
We will begin the year with working on close reading, this is a skill we will work on throughout the school year.  We did an activity with close reading and oreo cookies- which the students loved! :)  We started a close reading of a poem entitled "Casey at the Bat".  We will be comparing it to another text as well.  We will continue working with this poem next week as well.

Social Studies/Science:
We will start the year with Social Studies and dive into studying the Northeast region.  We started by looking through the textbook and doing a textbook scavenger hunt.  We also had our first social studies assignment.  They will have their first test next Friday, September 13 on the Northeast region.  Please study the map this coming week.

Mrs. Olsen's Math Class:
As you know we switch classes for math, so this will only apply to my math class- check your math teachers blog for what they are doing in their math class.  We will begin the year with unit 1 on multiplication and division.  They have done a nice job so far this week finishing their homework. We took our first pre-test and did a reflection sheet on it after grading it.  These will come home with their study guide at the end of the unit to use as a study tool.
