Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room!

  Reading
We read a story this week- What do you do with a Tail like this?  This is a cute story about animal parts and what they do with the different parts of their bodies- like tails, eyes, noses, and mouths.  We learned some new words with the story as well: pesky, warn, squirt, leap, scoop, and capture.

Jolly Phonics
This week we learned about the word family -ug.  We played some games using our popcorn words.  I will send home the popcorn assessments next week so you can see if their are any popcorn words to practice over the summer.  Writing sentences with popcorn words is always good practice too.

Math
We started topic 16 this week on analyzing and comparing shapes. Our last centers of the year this week consisted of some folder games on shapes, measurement, and data, tally mark counting, and making faces out of shapes.

Writing/ Handwriting
We did some handwriting this week practicing teen numbers. We started our last project for the year this week on different animals.  They will finish them up next week and bring them home for you to see. :)

Please remember to send in a HEALTHY snack for your child- cookies and treats are not healthy snacks.  It needs to be a 100%juice, fruits or vegetables preferably, otherwise crackers or something like that.

We will have until the end of the school year Mrs. Grishow in our classroom as a helper.  She has been helping out with a lot of things and the students are enjoying the extra help in the room. :)  She goes by a few names- Mrs. G or Mrs. Lori too- in case you hear your child mention that name.

The kindergarten musical was a hit!  The children did great- I hope you all enjoyed it and your child slept good for you that night! :)

Zoo field trip next Thursday, June 4- please dress your child appropriately for the weather and send a sack lunch with your child.

Have a great weekend!

Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room!

  Reading
We read a story this week- Giraffes Can't Dance. This is a funny story that has a great lesson in it.  Gerald the Giraffe can't dance and the other animals in the jungle laugh at him because of this.  Gerald decides he is going to learn to dance and does- he impresses all the other animals and they want to be like him then. :)  We made a cute giraffe craft with a poem.  We learned some new words with the story as well: prance, bold, splendid, sneered, and crept.

Jolly Phonics
This week we learned about the word family -un.  We added  our last 4 popcorn words for the year- "black", "orange", "white", and "brown".  We did some fun color poems and songs for all the color words we learned the past 2 weeks.  We have learned 95 words this year!  I will be assessing the students in the next couple weeks and will send that home for you so you know which words to practice over the summer.  Always good to practice all of them by writing the word in a sentence. :)

Math
We started topic 15 last week on position and location of shapes.  We finished it up this week and will start our last topic for the year next week on analyzing and comparing shapes.  Our centers this week consisted of some folder games on shapes, measurement, and data, sorting 3-D shapes, and stamping teen numbers.

Writing/ Handwriting
We did not get to handwriting this week. We made our last star student book for the year for Olivia because she was our star student this week.

Please remember to send in a HEALTHY snack for your child- cookies and treats are not healthy snacks.  It needs to be a 100%juice, fruits or vegetables preferably, otherwise crackers or something like that.

Remember, we have the kindergarten musical on Thursday, May 28 at 7:00 pm.  It should be really cute- the students have been working really hard in music every week! :)

Have a great Memorial Day weekend!

We did some practice writing our numbers properly in handwriting this week.  We also spent time making a present for our moms for Mother's Day.  I told them to take the present out of their folder and hide it until Sunday- but not sure if they will remember to do that- so if you find it give it to them first. :)

Please remember to send in a HEALTHY snack for your child- cookies and treats are not healthy snacks.  It needs to be a 100%juice, fruits or vegetables preferably, otherwise crackers or something like that.
