Writing/ Handwriting
We worked on some handwriting pages this week.  We worked on lower case v and w.  We also wrote a sentence about why we like Jasmine since she was our star student this week.  We read a fun book about plants and flowers today and created a flower craft labeling all the parts of the flower.

Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room!

  Reading
We read another non fiction book this week On the Go.  It was about how people get around all over the world.  We learned some new vocab words - active and haul.  During daily 5 this week we did many activities that involved writing CVC words and working on beginning sounds.  We finished the lion and lamb writing activity on how we are more like lion or lamb weather. I will be making it into a book for you to look at during open house.

Jolly Phonics
We focused on the word family "et" this week.  We added four new popcorn words this week- "say",  "away", "play" and "they". Keep practicing those popcorn books- we have a lot of words now!

Math
We continued to work on measurement this past week and our centers had measurement activities, as well as, addition and subtraction.  We took our first subtraction timed test on -0 today.  Half of the class did great and will do -1 next week.  Subtraction is definitely harder than addition.  The other half of the class will still be working on +1, +2, or -0 for next week.  We also talked about the importance of fluency in knowing your math facts.  The faster we know our facts the easier the following years in math will be. :)

Writing/ Handwriting
We wrote a sentence and drew a picture about Ryan this week since he is our star student.  We did a fun rainbow craft with a rhyme we created to go with it!

**Thanks to the families who have donated kleenex, wipes, pencils, paper towels, and glue!**  We still could use kleenex, wipes, and paper towels!  We are completely out of wipes as of today and down to our last paper towel!

** Thanks to Diezel's parents for donating a class movie and popcorn this week- the students got to watch Turbo and have popcorn on Wednesday.  They bought it at the PTO auction a few weeks ago- the students loved it! :)

**Remember snack should be healthy , such as fruit, vegetables, cheese, or crackers. If you are sending a juice, make sure it is 100% juice.** Thanks!
