Mrs. Olsen's 4th Grade Blog

Welcome back to a new school year!

This will be a weekly reminder of what is coming up in the following week.  I will send it out as an email to the parents on Fridays.

General reminders:
1.  Binders should come back and forth to school everyday with your child.  Please check their binders for homework.
2. Make sure chromebooks are charged before coming to school everyday.
3.  Please do not hesitate to email me with any questions or concerns you have with your child. jolsen@ccsd66.org

This is what we will be working on the for the week of September 16-20!

Spelling:
This week we will be working on words that have ou, aw, au, and ow in each word.  We will be practicing and learning these words throughout the week.  The test will be Friday, September 20.

English:
We will continue with the topic of reviewing what makes a good sentence.  We will be focusing on sentence structure.  This is important to use all year and all the time!

Reading:
We begun the year with close reading, this is a skill we will work on throughout the school year.    We will continue with the poem titled "Casey at the Bat".  We will be comparing it to another text as well.  We will continue working with this poem next week as well.

Social Studies/Science:
We will start the year with Social Studies and dive into studying the Northeast region.   We learned about Niagara Falls this week and will learn about resources in the Northeast next week.  They had their first test on the Northeast today- look for their grade this weekend!

Mrs. Olsen's Math Class:
We did a few activities this past week on using different strategies to find multiplication and division problems- number lines, ratio tables, area models, and making arrays.  We will continue next week with more on factors, prime and composite numbers, and multiplication and division strategies. I collected their homework today and will be taking their first grade on it.  You can look for the score this weekend once I get them graded on schoolnet. :)

Important Info:

MAPS testing is completed!  They did great!
We will have some common reading and math assessments over the next 2 weeks we will be doing in class on their chromebooks, so please make sure they come everyday charged.

Have a great weekend!  Enjoy the summer like weather we are having!
