Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room!

  Reading
We read a story this week- Pumpkin, Pumpkin.  This is a cute story about a boy who plants a pumpkin seed and watches how it grows into a pumpkin.  We learned some new words with the story: observe, patient, enormous, and scoop.

Jolly Phonics
This week we learned the letters l and and the actions that go with them.  Ask your child what sounds they make and what actions go with those sounds. :)  We also learned the popcorn words me and am.  Please practice the words at home.

Math
We have been working hard on making different ways to get to 10.  We did math centers where the students had to stamp with numbers and dominoes up to 10, roll a dice and color in a pumpkin, match numbers on pumpkins with ten frames, color, count, and glue numbers on pumpkins, a number book using #1-10 and ten frames, games on the i-pad, and an activity where the students needed to find pumpkins and count their seeds  around the room.  We read a story today Jack the Builder.

Writing/ Handwriting
We introduced the letter Dd in handwriting this week.  We made a couple crafts today having to do with pumpkins and a scary ghost for Halloween.

**Please remember to send in a HEALTHY snack for your child- cookies and treats are not healthy snacks.  It needs to be fruits or vegetables preferably, otherwise crackers or something like that.  They are welcome to bring in a water bottle to drink during the day.  Please bring it filled, we do not fill water bottles during the day.  If they drink it all, then they can get water from the drinking fountain.  Thanks!**

** Next week is the Halloween parade and classroom party.  Please send your child with their costume to school.  We will be changing into our costumes after lunch.  The parade starts at 1:00 and the party is at 1:30.  Please feel free to come and watch the parade, however, only the parents signed up for the party are allowed at the party.  Thanks for your cooperation.**

**I also sent home an email this week with a link to sign up for parent conferences on November 10 and 11.  Thanks to those of you who signed up already.  If you have not signed up please do so, so we can discuss your child's progress.  Thanks!**

Have a great weekend!

We read a story this week- Miss Bindergarten Takes a Field Trip.  This is a great story about a teacher who takes her kindergarten class on a field trip all over town.  The students could relate to it since they are in kindergarten. :)  There were some fun patterns in the story we discovered too!  We learned some new words with the story: post office, bakery, chaperone, and steers.

Jolly Phonics
This week we learned the letters r and and the actions that go with them.  Ask your child what sounds they make and what actions go with those sounds. :)  We also learned the popcorn words like and up.  Please practice the words at home.

We did some more with comparing and contrasting numbers higher than 5 this week.  We did math centers where the students had to stamp with numbers and dominoes, roll a dice and try to fill in to ten first with a partner, match numbers with dots, color, count, and glue numbers, a number book using #1-10 and ten frames, games on the i-pad, and an activity where the students needed to find and count tally marks and letters around the room.  We read a story today Ten Black Dots.  We made up are own black dot picture and wrote a sentence with it and I am making it into a book they can look at.

Writing/ Handwriting
We introduced the letter Tt in handwriting this week.  We made a fun fall craft today using paint and our hand prints to make a fall tree.  They are hanging up outside the room.

Thanks!**

** Yesterday an orange sheet was sent home with all the students for the program "Book It".  The students need to read for 20 minutes each day and color in the days they read, at the end of the month turn that orange sheet in for a pizza certificate to Pizza Hut. **

**Reminder next Friday, October 9 is an early dismissal day, so the students will not eat lunch here and will be dismissed at 11:35.  Also, no school the following Monday, October 12 for Columbus Day.**
