 Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room!

 Reading
We read a few gingerbread stories this week. We also had the Gingerbread Man in our room disappear, so we were on the lookout for him all week!  He left us clues each day and Mrs. Hansen found him this morning trying to run out of the school. The students enjoyed this all week!  When we get back from winter break we will be adding a new station to our daily 5- working on writing.  So, the students will be coming home with more writing activities.  We also read a poem this week called Five Yummy Gingerbread Men.

Jolly Phonics
We added the letter "oo" this week to our sounds. Ask your child what the action is that goes with the sound. We added three new popcorn words as well- "go", "no", and "so". Point out the popcorn words in stories you read to your children as well. Then, when they are reading to self during daily 5 they will recognize those words and be proud that they can read them.

Handwriting
We did not do any handwriting this week.  But we have been practicing for the past 2 weeks writing the numbers 11-20 in our morning work.

Math
We did a few different holiday games this week practicing adding, counting, and recognizing numbers up to 20.

Writing
We wrote and drew something we like about Nicholas since he was our star student for the week. We also made some candy cane crafts.

Miss Ann from Junior Achievement finished up with the students this week.  The students should have brought home some things from her.  They enjoyed working with her.

***Thanks to all the parents who volunteered time or goodies for the holiday party today!  The kids had a blast!  I appreciate all the effort especially during this busy time!***

We added three new popcorn words as well- "little", "and", and "yes". Point out the popcorn words in stories you read to your children as well. Then, when they are reading to self during daily 5 they will recognize those words and be proud that they can read them.

Handwriting
We did do the letter G in handwriting.

Math
We did lots of work this week on greater than and less than.  The students had fun pretending the alligator was eating the bigger number.

Writing
We wrote and drew something we like about Aarefa since she was our star student for the week. We also made some Rudolph the Reindeer crafts.

We also had a Junior Achievement volunteer named Miss Ann come in and teach us about money, farm animals, and planting a vegetable garden.  The students enjoyed having someone new teaching them. :)

Have a great weekend! Stay warm! :)
