Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room!




  Reading 
We read a story this week- Arthur's Perfect Christmas.  This is a cute story about Arthur's idea of what Christmas should be like.  Many of the students knew the story. We got to watch the movie today as well. :)

Jolly Phonics 
  This week we learned the letters y and and the actions that goes with them.  Ask your child what sounds they make and what actions go with those sounds. :)  We also learned the popcorn words yes and no.  Please practice the words at home. 

Math 
  We have finished learning about teen numbers, we have been practicing counting up to 100 in different ways.  Also, counting up from a random number.  Please keep practicing teen numbers at home.  We did math centers where the students had to stamp with numbers 11-20, making patterns with holiday cookies, math games on the i-pad, missing number elves, matching hershey kiss numbers with the base ten blocks, and reindeer ten frames.

Writing/ Handwriting 
We practiced the letter y and x in handwriting this week.  We read The Grinch Who Stole Christmas and made a Grinch craft.  They had fun with these.


**Please remember to send in a HEALTHY snack for your child- cookies and treats are not healthy snacks.  It needs to be fruits or vegetables preferably, otherwise crackers or something like that.  They are welcome to bring in a water bottle to drink during the day.  Please bring it filled, we do not fill water bottles during the day.  If they drink it all, then they can get water from the drinking fountain.  Thanks!**

** Remember early dismissal on Tuesday, December 15 next week.  The students will leave before lunch and not eat at school**


**We are also having Junior Achievement come next Tuesday, December 15- the students will enjoy this!**

Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room!




  Reading 
We read a story this week- A Turkey for Thanksgiving.  This is a cute story about a group of animals who want to have a turkey sit with them at their Thanksgiving meal, however, he thinks they want to eat him.  The students enjoyed it and we were able to practice some sequencing with it.  We learned some new words with the story: Thanksgiving, hooves, riverbank, and lumbered.

Jolly Phonics 
  This week we learned the letters ee and or and the actions that goes with them.  Ask your child what sounds they make and what actions go with those sounds. :)  We also learned the popcorn words too and ran.  Please practice the words at home. 

Math 
  We are continuing to practice more with teen numbers.  We did math centers where the students had to stamp with numbers 6-10, turkey teens ten frame book, math games on the i-pad, counting on with turkeys, what comes next?, pilgrims and native americans on a ten frame, and count up to 20 with dominoes.

Writing/ Handwriting 
We practiced the letter Gg and a review page in handwriting this week.  We made  2 turkey crafts today.  They were fun- one is hanging up in the room and the other will come home next week when we finish it.  I want to laminate them in case you want to use it for a place mat at Thanksgiving. :)

Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room!




  Reading 
We read a story this week- From Seed to Pumpkin.  This is a non-fiction story about the pumpkin life cycle.  We got to do a cool nearpod activity on the ipad with this story that the students really enjoyed!.  We learned some new words with the story: relieved and sprouted.

Jolly Phonics 
  This week we learned the letters oa and ie the actions that goes with them.  Ask your child what sounds they make and what actions go with those sounds. :)  We also learned the popcorn words but and to.  Please practice the words at home. 

Math 
  We have been learning all about teen numbers this week again.  We did math centers where the students had to stamp with numbers 6-10, spin a counter and color a turkey matching a number on the ten frame, math games on the i-pad, roll and trace numbers from 11-20, rainbow trace numbers to 30, counting numbers on a squirrel in a scattered configuration up to 20, and a fall numbers book.

Writing/ Handwriting 
We practiced the letter Ee and Ff in handwriting this week.  We made  2 crafts today about the pumpkin life cycle.  Both of those came home.

Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room!




  Reading 
We read a story this week- Spookily the Pumpkin.  This is a cute story about a pumpkin who is square instead of round.  The students enjoyed it and got to make their own Spookily pumpkin today.  We learned some new words with the story: variety, rare, teased, and fright.

Jolly Phonics 
  This week we learned the letters ai and the action that goes with it.  Ask your child what sounds they make and what actions go with those sounds. :)  We also learned the popcorn words is and can.  Please practice the words at home. 

Math 
  We have been learning all about teen numbers this week.  We did math centers where the students had to stamp with numbers 11-20, roll 2 dice and color in a pumpkin, match numbers on pumpkins with ten frames, color, count, and glue numbers on pumpkins, a number book using #1-9, games on the i-pad, and an activity where the students needed to find pumpkins and count their seeds  around the room.  

Writing/ Handwriting 
We practiced the letter Cc and a review page in handwriting this week.  We made a Spookily pumpkin craft today and watched the Spookily movie today.  The students loved it.

Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room!



  Reading 
We read a story this week- Pumpkin, Pumpkin.  This is a cute story about a boy who plants a pumpkin seed and watches how it grows into a pumpkin.  We learned some new words with the story: observe, patient, enormous, and scoop.

Jolly Phonics 
  This week we learned the letters l and and the actions that go with them.  Ask your child what sounds they make and what actions go with those sounds. :)  We also learned the popcorn words me and am.  Please practice the words at home. 

Math 
  We have been working hard on making different ways to get to 10.  We did math centers where the students had to stamp with numbers and dominoes up to 10, roll a dice and color in a pumpkin, match numbers on pumpkins with ten frames, color, count, and glue numbers on pumpkins, a number book using #1-10 and ten frames, games on the i-pad, and an activity where the students needed to find pumpkins and count their seeds  around the room.  We read a story today Jack the Builder.  

Writing/ Handwriting 
We introduced the letter Dd in handwriting this week.  We made a couple crafts today having to do with pumpkins and a scary ghost for Halloween.

** Next week is the Halloween parade and classroom party.  Please send your child with their costume to school.  We will be changing into our costumes after lunch.  The parade starts at 1:00 and the party is at 1:30.  Please feel free to come and watch the parade, however, only the parents signed up for the party are allowed at the party.  Thanks for your cooperation.**

Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room!



  Reading 
We read a story this week- Miss Bindergarten Takes a Field Trip.  This is a great story about a teacher who takes her kindergarten class on a field trip all over town.  The students could relate to it since they are in kindergarten. :)  There were some fun patterns in the story we discovered too!  We learned some new words with the story: post office, bakery, chaperone, and steers.

Jolly Phonics 
  This week we learned the letters r and and the actions that go with them.  Ask your child what sounds they make and what actions go with those sounds. :)  We also learned the popcorn words like and up.  Please practice the words at home. 

Math 
  We did some more with comparing and contrasting numbers higher than 5 this week.  We did math centers where the students had to stamp with numbers and dominoes, roll a dice and try to fill in to ten first with a partner, match numbers with dots, color, count, and glue numbers, a number book using #1-10 and ten frames, games on the i-pad, and an activity where the students needed to find and count tally marks and letters around the room.  We read a story today Ten Black Dots.  We made up are own black dot picture and wrote a sentence with it and I am making it into a book they can look at.

Writing/ Handwriting 
We introduced the letter Tt in handwriting this week.  We made a fun fall craft today using paint and our hand prints to make a fall tree.  They are hanging up outside the room.

** Yesterday an orange sheet was sent home with all the students for the program "Book It".  The students need to read for 20 minutes each day and color in the days they read, at the end of the month turn that orange sheet in for a pizza certificate to Pizza Hut. **

**Reminder next Friday, October 9 is an early dismissal day, so the students will not eat lunch here and will be dismissed at 11:35.  Also, no school the following Monday, October 12 for Columbus Day.**
