 December 17-21 News!

Spelling:
  We are continuing our study of the mythology spelling words. Our final test will be Thursday, December 20.  

English:
We finished up unit 5 and took our test.  The students overall did well on it! :)  We have done revisions on our personal narrative and the students are making their final revisions to it. 

Reading:
We started mythology this week and the students are excited for it!  I will be introducing a project for them to work on with a partner next week.   
 
Social Studies/Science:
  We are continuing our energy unit in science.   We have learned about converters and what energy is converted into from electrical energy!  We will be finishing up the Southeast chapter next week.  We will be reviewing and having our chapter 6 test on Friday, December 21.  I sent home a study guide for them today. 

Math:
We had our unit 3 test this past week.  We started unit 4 on addition, subtraction, and measurement.

Important Info:
We had a great assembly on Women in History today.  The students were very interested and learned a lot from her!
We also had our marble party on Wednesday this week- thanks to Mrs. Free and Mrs. Kosinski for sending in popcorn and all the students who brought in movies for us to choose from- I think they all enjoyed The Sandlot!

Please make sure you send in the permission slip to see the Elf movie as a school on Tuesday, December 18. It should be a fun day!  We also have a band concert that afternoon.

Wednesday, December 19 we have our bowling field trip with Mrs. Cushing in the morning.

 December 10-14 News!

Spelling:
  We will be starting mythology spelling words this week.  There are 10 words and 8 vocabulary words.  We will work on these words for the next 2 weeks.  Our final test will be Thursday, December 20.  

English:
We have been reviewing all week.  The unit 5 test is on Wednesday, December 12.  Please look in their english folders- we have been putting all the review pages in there to keep for studying.  We are finishing up revising our personal narratives.  I will be bringing them home over the weekend to look through so we can finalize them and print! :)

Reading:
We will be starting mythology next week and for the next few weeks!  The students will enjoy this!
 
Social Studies/Science:
  We are continuing with our energy unit in science.   We will be finishing up the Southeast chapter next week.  We will be reviewing and having our chapter 6 test on Friday, December 21.

Math:
We will have our unit 3 test on Monday, December 10.  We did some reviewing today and I sent home their pre-assessment they took at the beginning of the unit.  Please study that over the weekend.  It is very similar to the test on Monday.  We will then start unit 4 on addition, subtraction, and measurement.

Important Info:
Next week we have a special assembly on Friday, December 14.  It is on famous and courageous women in history!  Looking forward to seeing it!
Please make sure you send in the permission slip to see the Elf movie as a school on Tuesday, December 18.

 December 3-7 News!

Spelling:
We will not have a spelling list next week.  We will be starting mythology the following week and will do spelling to go along with that.  So, we will skip next week. :)

English:
We have finished up unit 5 in English.  We will be reviewing all next week and will have the unit 5 test on Wednesday, December 12.

Reading:
We will finish up studying about Lou Gehrig next week.  The students do have a vocab quiz on Monday, December 3.  They can study and practice their words using their word work assignment they did in class.  There is a quizlet they can play to practice their vocab words.
 
Social Studies/Science:
  We are continuing with our energy unit in science.  They had to pick a claim and use evidence to write an argument they believe in!  We are still learning about the Southeast as well in Social Studies.

Math:
We are moving right along in unit 3 on fractions and decimals.  We had a checkpoint today, the students will get those back on Monday to see how they did.  Next week will be more of comparing fractions and decimals.

Important Info:
Hopefully you enjoyed your extra "snow day" or an extended Thanksgiving break!  Crazy the weather we had in November!  Hopefully it is not a precursor for the winter we will be having!!

Tuesday, December 4 is a SIP day, so the students will be dismissed at 11:00 am.

 November 19-30 News!

Spelling:
We will not have a spelling list next week due to the short week.  But, our spelling words the following week will be homographs, words that are spelled the same but have different meanings. The test is Friday, November 30.

English:
We are continuing with unit 5 in English over the next couple weeks.  These lessons are helping us with our writing of realistic fiction stories.  

Reading:
We finished studying about MLK and comparing how Jackie Robinson and Malala show courage with a written paragraph the students did this week.  We will start learning about a new courageous person next week- Lou Gehrig.
 
Social Studies/Science:
  We are continuing with our energy unit in science.  Some new words the students have been using and learning about in science are: engineer, function, synthesize, system, electrical device, energy, and electrical energy.  We took our Southeast map quiz today.  They will get those back Monday to see how they did.  We will continue learning more about the Southeast over the next few weeks.
 
Math:
We are continuing our work in unit 3 on fractions and decimals.  We learned how to add fractions this week.  We will be moving into decimals in the next couple weeks.

Important Info:
First trimester ended today- November 16!

Report cards will be available next week for parents to view.

Remember next week is shortened due to the Thanksgiving holiday- no school Wednesday, November 21- November 23.

 November 12-16 News!

Spelling:
Our spelling words next week will be homophones. We will be discussing the differences in the words. The test is Friday, November 16.

English:
We will continue unit 5 next week with writing good sentences.  We have drafted our realistic story and added a dramatic ending.  We started typing our stories into our chromebook so it is easier to revise it.  We will do more publication and revising next week.

Reading:
We are still in our Courage unit.  We did some practicing with text dependent questions and turning the question around to answer questions.  We will be doing more of these throughout the year.  Next week we will be learning about other courageous people and comparing them to Martin Luther King.

Social Studies/Science:
  We learned more about energy and sources where it is found in science this week.  We made some simple machines and found it to be fun to explore parts of a machine and figure out how to get them to work properly.  We also started Chapter 6 in Social Studies- on the southeast. We labeled all the parts on the southeast map today.  They do have homework over the weekend to label their southeast map.  It will be due on Tuesday, November 13.  Quiz will be on Friday, November 16 to identify the states of the southeast on a map, extra points for knowing the capitals too.

Math:
We are continuing our work in unit 3 on fractions and decimals.  We learned about equivalent, improper, and mixed fractions.  We had a checkpoint today to see how well they understand equivalent fractions.  I also took a grade on their homework.  I may do another homework assignment next week for a grade as well. 

Important Info:
Thanks to all the veterans who came in today for our assembly!  It was a great assembly to honor all our veterans for Veteran's Day this weekend!

 November 5-9 News!

Spelling:
Our spelling words next week will be words with "ei" or "ie" in them. We will be discussing the rules to follow for the "ei" and "ie". The test is Friday, November 9.

English:
We will continue unit 5 next week with writing good sentences.  We have drafted our realistic story and added a dramatic ending.  We will start publication and revising next week.

Reading:
We are still in our Courage unit.  We did more close reading this week and will be taking a quiz on the Dr. Martin Luther King materials we have been discussing and reading about.  It will probably be Wednesday or later in the week depending on how much we get done today and next week.

Social Studies/Science:
  We started science this week on energy- the students are enjoying this unit!  We will also start Chapter 6 in Social Studies- on the southeast. Quiz will be on November 13 to identify the states of the southeast on a map, extra points for knowing the capitals too.

Math:
We started unit 3 on fractions and decimals.  We learned about equivalent, improper, and mixed fractions.  The students also have in their math folder a set of fraction pieces that they can use to help with homework.

Important Info:
Thanks to all the moms who helped out with the Halloween party!  The students had a great time!  What a beautiful day we got for it too!

 October 29- November 2 News!

Spelling:
Our spelling words next week will be words with suffixes -ment, -tion, and -ly. We will be discussing the meaning of the suffixes and how they help you know the meaning of a word. The test is Friday, November 2.

English:
We will continue unit 5 this week on capitalization and punctuation.  We have drafted our realistic fiction story, we will continue to work on making it our best story next week with a dramatic ending.

Reading:
We are still in our Courage unit.  We will be doing some more close reading of Martin Luther King's speech next week and more practice with text dependent questions.

Social Studies/Science:
  We started science this week on energy- the students are excited for this unit!  We will be doing this unit for a couple months.

Math:
We will start unit 3 on fractions and decimals next week.

Important Info:
Thanks to all those that joined me for parent conferences this week.  It was great to discuss your student's progress so far this year.
No school on Monday, October  29.
Halloween parties on Wednesday- make sure your child comes to school ready to just put their costume on over their clothes or for it to be on under their clothes.

 October 22-26 News!

Spelling:
Our spelling words next week will be words with prefixes pre-, re-, and mis-. We will be discussing the meaning of the prefixes and how they help you know the meaning of a word. The test is Thursday, October 25.

English:
We will continue unit 5 this week on capitalization and punctuation.  We have drafted our realistic fiction story, we will continue to work on making it our best story next week.

Reading:
We are still in our Courage unit.  We will be doing some vocab activities and close reading of Martin Luther King's speech next week.  We will also continue with some cause and effect practice.

Social Studies/Science:
  We had our Northeast feast today!  They had fun and some tried some new things!  We had dried cranberries, grapes, grape juice, and pancakes with real maple syrup!! :)  We will be starting science next week on energy!  It will be fun for the students to see some ways we get our energy for everyday things!


Math:
We will work on division strategies next week.  We have learned a few different strategies for multiplication and have played some games to practice these strategies.

Important Info:
Parent conferences are October 23 and 24. Please sign up if you need to still.  
No school on Friday, October 26 or 29.
