 November 12-16 News!

Spelling:
Our spelling words next week will be homophones. We will be discussing the differences in the words. The test is Friday, November 16.

English:
We will continue unit 5 next week with writing good sentences.  We have drafted our realistic story and added a dramatic ending.  We started typing our stories into our chromebook so it is easier to revise it.  We will do more publication and revising next week.

Reading:
We are still in our Courage unit.  We did some practicing with text dependent questions and turning the question around to answer questions.  We will be doing more of these throughout the year.  Next week we will be learning about other courageous people and comparing them to Martin Luther King.

Social Studies/Science:
We learned more about energy and sources where it is found in science this week.  We made some simple machines and found it to be fun to explore parts of a machine and figure out how to get them to work properly.  We also started Chapter 6 in Social Studies- on the southeast. We labeled all the parts on the southeast map today.  They do have homework over the weekend to label their southeast map.  It will be due on Tuesday, November 13.  Quiz will be on Friday, November 16 to identify the states of the southeast on a map, extra points for knowing the capitals too.

Math:
We are continuing our work in unit 3 on fractions and decimals.  We learned about equivalent, improper, and mixed fractions.  We had a checkpoint today to see how well they understand equivalent fractions.  I also took a grade on their homework.  I may do another homework assignment next week for a grade as well.

Important Info:
Thanks to all the veterans who came in today for our assembly!  It was a great assembly to honor all our veterans for Veteran's Day this weekend!

First trimester ends Friday, November 16!

Have a great  weekend!
