Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room!

  Reading
We read a story this week- Love You Forever.  This is a sweet story about a mom and what she does every night with her son even when he grows up. The students really enjoyed it.  The students also learned some new vocabulary: rocked, flushed, strange, and grown-up.

Jolly Phonics
This week we learned the letters ng and th and the actions that goes with them.  Ask your child what sounds they make and what actions go with those sounds. :)  We also learned the popcorn words be, he, and she.  Remember we will be learning 3 new popcorn words each week from now until the end of the year!  Please practice the words at home.

Math
We continued learning about shapes.  The students are having fun with these.  We did math centers where the students had to stamp with numbers 11-15, playing shape bingo, math games on the i-pad, writing teen numbers, using shapes to make a star, and making a 2-D shape books.

Writing/ Handwriting
We practiced the letter r, n, m, and h in handwriting this week.  We made a card for our moms today- please look for it in their green folder.

**Please remember to send in a HEALTHY snack for your child- cookies and treats are not healthy snacks.  It needs to be fruits or vegetables preferably, otherwise crackers or something like that.  They are welcome to bring in a water bottle to drink during the day.  Please bring it filled, we do not fill water bottles during the day.  If they drink it all, then they can get water from the drinking fountain.  Thanks!**

** Remember  no school on Monday, January 18 in observance of Martin Luther King Day.**

** I sent home this week a 100 day project- please turn it in by January 29. Thanks!

Have a great, long weekend!
