Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room!

  Reading
We read a story this week-The Snowy Day.  This is a fun story about winter.   A little boy named Peter shows us what he does on a snowy day.  The students learned some new vocabulary with the story: snowsuit, smacking, pretended, heaping, and adventures.

Jolly Phonics
This week we learned the letters oi and ue and the actions that goes with them.  Ask your child what sounds they make and what actions go with those sounds. :)  We also learned the popcorn words get, help, and now.  Remember we will be learning 3 new popcorn words each week from now until the end of the year!  Please practice the words at home.

Math
We continued learning about shapes and added in 3D shapes.  The students are having fun with these.  We did math centers where the students had to stamp with numbers 16-20, games about shapes, math games on the i-pad, walking around the room and writing down the 3 numbers after a number on a card, sorting 2D and 3D shapes, making shapes on geo boards, and making a 3D shapes book.

Writing/ Handwriting
We did a few review pages in handwriting this week. We are done learning all the letters in the handwriting book!  We made a craft of Peter from The Snowy Day book in his snowsuit- they are cute!  They are hanging outside the room!

**Please remember to send in a HEALTHY snack for your child- cookies and treats are not healthy snacks.  It needs to be fruits or vegetables preferably, otherwise crackers or something like that.  They are welcome to bring in a water bottle to drink during the day.  Please bring it filled, we do not fill water bottles during the day.  If they drink it all, then they can get water from the drinking fountain.  Thanks!**

** 100 day projects look great!  Thanks for taking the time to do those!  They are cute and creative!**

** Next Wednesday, February 3 is an early dismissal day- the students will not eat lunch here at school and are dismissed at 11:35 am.**

**Friday, February 5 is our 100th day of school- so will be a special day of lots of fun activities!**

Have a great weekend!
