This is what we will be working on for the week of September 17-21.

Spelling:
Our spelling words next week will be frequently misspelled words, it will have homophones to, too, and two and  their, there, and they're.  We will practice using them correctly and discuss the meaning of these.  The test is Friday, September 21.

English:
We will be finishing up the first unit on what is a sentence?  We will be reviewing on Tuesday, 9/18 and the test will be on Wednesday, September 19.  There is a chapter review in the textbook (p.56-62).  The students can practice with that to review and study.  We will send books home on Monday.  We will also be starting a unit on writing next week.  We will be doing writer's workshop twice a week.

Reading:
We will be starting a new unit next week called Courage.  The Courage unit begins by exploring how one person can make a difference. In order to gain some background knowledge of Dr. Martin Luther King,  students will work in small groups to close read a biographical article about his life. They will also independently watch a video about him and answer text-dependent questions related to the video.

Social Studies/Science:
We will be finishing up chapter 4 next week on the northeast geography.  We will end the week with a review  of the chapter and tentatively have a test scheduled for Tuesday, September 25.

Math:
We learned some fun multiplication and division games this past week to help us with remembering strategies. Next week we will have our first checkpoint quiz, Tuesday, September 18 to see how we are doing.  We will review on Monday for it, so please look for the review page we do to make sure your child understands the concepts they will be quizzed on. I also have tentatively planned for unit 1 test on Friday, September 21.

Important Info:
Today during math class we went to see the tent for the Kelly circus being raised up!  It was cool to see it go up so quickly!  Enjoy it if you are going tonight!

Have a great weekend!
