Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room!

  Reading
We read a story this week called The Snowy Day.  It is a fun story about what a snow day is like for a boy and what he chooses to do. Some vocab words we learned this week were: snowsuit, smacking, pretended, heaping,  and adventures.  I sent home today an activity that you can do at retelling the story.  :)

Jolly Phonics
We learned about the letters "oi" and "ue".  Ask your child about the sounds and actions that go with those letters.  We added 3 popcorn words- "get", "help" and "now".  Please practice the popcorn words at home. :)

Math
We finished topic 8 this week on subtraction.  We started topic 9 which is more practicing of addition and subtraction.  We did some winter math activities during our center time that involved addition and subtraction, as well as counting up from different places.

Writing/ Handwriting
We practiced the letter Nn in handwriting this week.  We did a snowman glyph activity today, the children are bringing them home to show you.  These came out cute and the children enjoyed making them and we made a graph recording all the data from the whole class.  We were able to read some of the books today for pajama day but couldn't get to all of them. :(

I sent home a 100th day project today with the students.  Please look in their green folder for it. :)

Have a fun Super bowl weekend!! :)
