Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room!

  Reading
We read a story this week called Love You Forever.  It is about a mother who rocks her baby and sings a song every night to him as he gets older and even as a grown-up!  It is very sweet and can bring a tear to my eye every time I read it! :)  Some vocab words we learned this week were: rocked, flushed, strange, and grown-up.

Jolly Phonics
We learned about the letters "ng" and "th".  Ask your child about the sounds and actions that go with those letters.  We added 3 popcorn words- "he", "she" and "be".  Please practice the popcorn words at home. :)

Math
We started topic 8 this week- subtraction!  We will continue to practice addition and subtraction during our center time.

Writing/ Handwriting
We practiced the letter Pp in handwriting this week.  We did a snowman craft today with paint.  We also talked about the holiday we have on Monday- we did a song(which they loved), read a poem, and read our Weekly Reader about Martin Luther King.
We made a book for Nate, since he was the star student this week.

Remember, Monday- January 19 we do not have school due to the Martin Luther King holiday.  Enjoy the long weekend!

We welcomed a new student this week in class- Saba.  She is adjusting well to our classroom and the students have been very helpful welcoming her here. :)

Have a great, long weekend!
