Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room!

  Reading
We read a story this week called When Autumn Comes.  It is all about what we do in the autumn.  We did some visualizing with this story as well- the students thought that was pretty cool!  We learned some new vocabulary words that went with the story- autumn, preparation, ripen, and harvested.
We also started reading the Magic Tree House books to the class- they are really enjoying them!

Jolly Phonics
We learned about the letters "d" and "g".  Ask your child about the sounds and actions that go with those letters.  We added 2 popcorn words- at and run.  Please practice the popcorn words at home. :)

Math
We are working hard on reading, writing, counting, and comparing the numbers 6-10.  We will continue with this next as well.  The students are doing really well with the math centers that we do each day.  Having fun rotating and doing different activities each day in them.

Writing/ Handwriting
We practiced the capital and lowercase a in handwriting this week.  We had another star student this week- so we created a book for him.  We drew a picture of what we like about Mason and then wrote a sentence about it as well.  Mason got to bring this book home.  We did a fun "Autumn" tree craft today!

I hope everyone has a great, long weekend!  Remember no school on Monday, October 13 for Columbus Day.

Have a great weekend!
