Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room!

  Reading
We did a lot of focusing on Daily 5 this week and I have been assessing the students for their report cards.  I will finish that up next week as well.  We took some extra time to do some new skills in the writing part and word work part of Daily 5.

Jolly Phonics
We focused on short a this week, I also did some practice with finding long a as well.  We added three new popcorn words this week- "four",  "nine", and "said". We have been reading some of our sight word books together and the students are really able to read a lot of words.  Hopefully you are seeing this at home too! :)

Math
We practiced some more on adding numbers together and how to make number sentences vertically and horizontally.  We also did centers this week on stamping number sentences, adding numbers to 10, and practicing fluency in reading teen numbers.

Writing/ Handwriting
We did some journal writing this week on what we like about winter.  I had the students write the whoIe sentence on their own instead of giving them part of it to write and me finishing it for them. I am really focusing on having the students practice writing sentences with capitals and periods as well as the spacing between their words.

**Remember there is no school tomorrow, February 28 because of a teacher institute.**

** We are running low on glue sticks and pencils, so if anyone would like to donate some for the class it would be greatly appreciated. :) **
