Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room!

 Reading
We read a story this week A Letter to Amy  that worked on the skill wondering again.  We learned 2 new vocabulary words- glance and peer.  Ask your child what they mean.   We read another poem this week called "Groundhog's Day."   We got a full week in on our Daily 5 rotations.  We practiced writing and making sentences properly in one of our rotations.

Jolly Phonics
We added the letters "er" and "ar" this week to our sounds. Ask your child what the action is that goes with the 2 sounds. We added four new popcorn words this week- "now",  "look", "good" and "jump". We have been reading some of our sight word books together and the students are really able to read a lot of words.  Hopefully you are seeing this at home too! :)

Math
We started learning about adding numbers together and how to make number sentences.  We will really dive into these the next few weeks as well as subtraction.  We also did centers this week on adding numbers and continued with a couple more shape activities.

Writing/ Handwriting
We wrote a sentence and drew a picture about Kaylana since she was our star student this week.  We also made a cupcake craft.

Another cold and snowy week and weekend ahead for us!  Wow!  We are really getting a tough winter!  :(  Hopefully the kids are able to enjoy it a little bit with all the snow!

**Next week on Thursday, February 13 it is the 100th Day of school!  We will be doing a lot of activities centered around 100!

**Reminder- Read to Success reading logs that were sent home in the fall for Six Flags tickets are due February 24.**

**Valentine parties are on Friday, February 14 from 2:00-3:00.  If your child would like to send in valentines for the class we will be passing them out on Friday to everyone.  Please make sure to just have your child sign he or she's name and not put who it is to.  There are 20 students in the class- 12 girls and 8 boys.  Please no candy or presents- valentine cards are enough. :) **

**Remember snack should be healthy , such as fruit, vegetables, cheese, or crackers. If you are sending a juice, make sure it is 100% juice.** Thanks!
