Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room!

  Reading
We read a story this week called If I Were President.  It is a fictional story about what a kids perspective would be if he or she were president.  It was cute!  We practiced doing a speech in front of the class saying what each child would do if they were President.  These were pretty funny!  Some vocab words we learned this week were: preserve, protect, defend, mansion, speech and comfort.

Jolly Phonics
Since jolly phonics is over we are practicing a little more with our popcorn words- putting the words into sentences; we will be adding soon- writing the words in sentences too.  We will continue to focus on word families and blends till the end of the year as well.  This week we learned about the word family -et.  We added 3 popcorn words- "one", "two" and "three".  Please practice the popcorn words at home. :)

Math
We finished topic 9 this week focusing on different ways to make addition sentences from 4-9.  We will start topic 10 next week on composing numbers 11-19.  Centers this week we practiced sequencing numbers from 51-100, subtracting, and some addition and subtraction sentences.  We did 2 fun math activities on the computer today- look for the Abraham Lincoln and 2015 picture in your child's folder so they can tell you about it. :)

Writing/ Handwriting
We practiced the letter Hh and a review page in handwriting this week.  We made a Abraham Lincoln hat and head today and wrote about what we would keep in our hat. :)

Thanks for all the great effort of last week's Valentine party from the parents who came in for the party- Shannon Bowers, Suzanne Kotel, and Lora Lafin- thanks to the parents who sent things in as well- the students had a great time!! :)

Please remember to send in a HEALTHY snack for your child- cookies and treats are not healthy snacks.  It needs to be a 100%juice, fruits or vegetables preferably, otherwise crackers or something like that.

Have a wonderful weekend!
