Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room!

  Reading
We read another non fiction book this week I Want to be a Vet.  It was all about how hard vets work and the different types of animals they work on.  The students enjoyed it!  We learned some new vocab words - assist, injure, recover, and clever.  During daily 5 this week we played a fun game called "Monster Truck" where we read tons of CVC words.  We played it all week and the students loved it!

Jolly Phonics
We focused on the word family -ot and -op this week.  We added four new popcorn words this week- "came",  "make", "ate" and "ride". Please keep practicing- there are a ton of words now!

Math
This week we focused on a little bit of measurement but mostly did practicing with subtraction.  Today we took our -2 timed test.  I have not graded them yet, so will give you an update next week.

Writing/ Handwriting
We worked on some handwriting pages this week.  We worked on lower case v and w.  We also wrote a sentence about why we like Jasmine since she was our star student this week.  We read a fun book about plants and flowers today and created a flower craft labeling all the parts of the flower.
