Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room!

  Reading
We read a story this week called My Friends.  It is about a little girl who learns different things from all sorts of friends.  The students really enjoyed it and thought it was funny.  We learned some new vocabulary words that went with the story- explore, creature, imitate, and companion.

Jolly Phonics
We learned about the letters "i" and "p".  Ask your child about the sounds and actions that go with those letters.  We had 2 popcorn words- I and it.  There is also a What is it? book in their green folder- see if your child can read it to you.  We highlighted the popcorn words in it.

Math
This week we finished our first topic on writing, reading, and counting the numbers 1-5.  Next week we will start practicing math centers.

Writing/ Handwriting
We did some more pages in our handwriting book, practicing strokes and following directions. Next week we will start on specific letters and how to correctly form the uppercase and lowercase of each letter.   We did a journal on what you like to play with with your friends, I am making it into a class book.

Well, hello fall!  It certainly went from summer to fall this week very quickly!  I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and stay warm. :)  The students are getting into a great routine and getting used to the schedule.

Thanks to those of you who came to curriculum night on Monday- great to see all of you!  Hope it was helpful and informative!
