Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room!
Reading
We read a story this week called Friends at School. It is about children at school and the different things that happen at school during a typical day. The students could relate to things in the story and we made some comparisons and contrasts between them and our school day. We learned some new vocabulary words that went with the story- enjoy, gooey, container, and scrumptious.
Jolly Phonics
We learned about the letters "n" and "c, k". Ask your child about the sounds and actions that go with those letters. We added 2 popcorn words- in and see. We did some popcorn word books today like last week- we highlighted the popcorn words and practiced reading the books- see how well your child can read the book to you. :)
Math
This week we started topic 2 on fewer and more than 1 or 2. The students are pretty good at it so far- will continue more practice with it next week. We started math centers this week and the students really liked them. We will do them again next week.
Writing/ Handwriting
We practiced the capital and lowercase l in handwriting this week. We did a journal on what you see in class. The students did a writing part and then drew a picture to match. The students had a chance to share the journal with the class. They love using the Elmo up front and sharing with the class.
Thanks to all of you who came to the book fair and ice cream social last night- I am sure it was fun! Hopefully you were able to get some great new books! Thanks to the families who donated money to the classroom, I got a few great new books!! I can't wait to read them to the class! Thanks!
Have a great weekend!
