Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room!
Reading
We read a story this week called Henry's Wrong Turn. We practiced some more on the skill wondering. This is a cute story about a whale who ends up in the New York Harbor after taking a wrong turn. There were a lot of new words we learned with the story. Two of the words we learned were signal and pursue. See if your child can use those words in a sentence for you. :)
Jolly Phonics
We added the word families "-ap" and "-am" this week. We practiced sounding out and rhyming with these word families. We added three new popcorn words this week- "one", "two", and "three". We have been reading some of our sight word books together and the students are really able to read a lot of words. Hopefully you are seeing this at home too! :)
Math
We practiced some more on adding numbers together and how to make number sentences, as well as subtracting numbers. We also did centers this week on subtracting, stamping out number sentences, coloring by number, and rolling the dice to make a snowman.
Writing/ Handwriting
We did some handwriting this week on the letters A, I and S. We also made some cool snowflakes for the Snowflake Ball. We wrote about what we would do if we were President of the United States and did a craft with it.
