 October 9-12 News!

Spelling:
Our spelling words next week will be words with the suffixes -ness, -less, and -en.  A couple vocab words will also have those suffixes.  The test is Friday, October 12.

English:
We started unit 5 this week on capitalization and punctuation.  We will continue with that next week as well.  We have also been working hard on writing a realistic fiction story, we have been making story arcs and dramatic scenes for our stories.

Reading:
We are having some good conversations with our unit on courage.  We will continue working on the story Happy Birthday Martin Luther King!

Social Studies/Science:
We started chapter 5 lesson 1 on the reservations and indian tribes in the northeast region this week.  I had them answer some questions while using their social studies books, they did really well so I counted it towards their grade.  You probably saw that yesterday and it said quiz at the top, I did not count it as a quiz, I just counted it towards classwork but was pleasantly surprised at how well they did on it!  Next week we will make the first part of our United States map- the Northeast region.

Math:
We learned this week some strategies to figure out multi-digit multiplication problems.  Such as 4x16, 7x23 and so on.  We can build arrays, add numbers over and over, use linear pieces, and just building smaller rectangles  to make up the whole array.  We will continue work with multiplication stories and strategies next week.

Important Info:
Reminder there is no school on Monday, October 8 for the Columbus Day Holiday.
Progress reports are coming home today for any students getting a D or F in any subject.  Please sign and return.
Parent conferences are October 23 and 24, I will be sending home an email soon for you to pick a time.
