Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room!

  Reading
We read a story this week- Arthur's Perfect Christmas.  This is a cute story about Arthur's idea of what Christmas should be like.  Many of the students knew the story. We got to watch the movie today as well. :)

Jolly Phonics
This week we learned the letters y and and the actions that goes with them.  Ask your child what sounds they make and what actions go with those sounds. :)  We also learned the popcorn words yes and no.  Please practice the words at home.

Math
We have finished learning about teen numbers, we have been practicing counting up to 100 in different ways.  Also, counting up from a random number.  Please keep practicing teen numbers at home.  We did math centers where the students had to stamp with numbers 11-20, making patterns with holiday cookies, math games on the i-pad, missing number elves, matching hershey kiss numbers with the base ten blocks, and reindeer ten frames.

Writing/ Handwriting
We practiced the letter y and x in handwriting this week.  We read The Grinch Who Stole Christmas and made a Grinch craft.  They had fun with these.

**Please remember to send in a HEALTHY snack for your child- cookies and treats are not healthy snacks.  It needs to be fruits or vegetables preferably, otherwise crackers or something like that.  They are welcome to bring in a water bottle to drink during the day.  Please bring it filled, we do not fill water bottles during the day.  If they drink it all, then they can get water from the drinking fountain.  Thanks!**

** Remember early dismissal on Tuesday, December 15 next week.  The students will leave before lunch and not eat at school**

**We are also having Junior Achievement come next Tuesday, December 15- the students will enjoy this!**

Have a great weekend!

  Reading
We read a story this week- A Turkey for Thanksgiving.  This is a cute story about a group of animals who want to have a turkey sit with them at their Thanksgiving meal, however, he thinks they want to eat him.  The students enjoyed it and we were able to practice some sequencing with it.  We learned some new words with the story: Thanksgiving, hooves, riverbank, and lumbered.

Jolly Phonics
This week we learned the letters ee and or and the actions that goes with them.  Ask your child what sounds they make and what actions go with those sounds. :)  We also learned the popcorn words too and ran.  Please practice the words at home.

Math
We are continuing to practice more with teen numbers.  We did math centers where the students had to stamp with numbers 6-10, turkey teens ten frame book, math games on the i-pad, counting on with turkeys, what comes next?, pilgrims and native americans on a ten frame, and count up to 20 with dominoes.

Writing/ Handwriting
We practiced the letter Gg and a review page in handwriting this week.  We made  2 turkey crafts today.  They were fun- one is hanging up in the room and the other will come home next week when we finish it.  I want to laminate them in case you want to use it for a place mat at Thanksgiving. :)
