Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room!

  Reading
We read a story this week- Rainbow Fish. This is a wonderful story about how to treat others.  We made a rainbow fish today!  They look really cute!  We also read another book about sharks- some really neat facts about them were learned!  We then compared and contrasted fish and sharks.  We learned some new words with the story: shimmer, wise, shocked, glide, and admire.

Jolly Phonics
This week we learned about the word family -og.  We added 4 popcorn words- "funny", "pretty", "under", and "find".  Please practice the popcorn words at home. :)  We also learned some blends this week- squ and str.  We learned new words while blending! :)

Math
We learned all about shapes in topic 14.  It is fun to point out the shapes all around us! We will start topic 15 next week on position and location of shapes.  Our centers this week consisted of stamping of teen numbers, addition and subtraction practice, and practicing making shapes with play-doh.

Writing/ Handwriting
We did some practice writing our numbers properly in handwriting this week.  We also spent time making a present for our moms for Mother's Day.  I told them to take the present out of their folder and hide it until Sunday- but not sure if they will remember to do that- so if you find it give it to them first. :)

Please remember to send in a HEALTHY snack for your child- cookies and treats are not healthy snacks.  It needs to be a 100%juice, fruits or vegetables preferably, otherwise crackers or something like that.

We will have until the end of the school year Mrs. Grishow in our classroom as a helper.  She has been helping out with a lot of things and the students are enjoying the extra help in the room. :)  She goes by a few names- Mrs. G or Mrs. Lori too- in case you hear your child mention that name.

Thank you this week for all the cards and flowers all brought in this week!  It was really thoughtful and appreciated! :)

Have a great weekend!  Happy Mother's Day to all the moms!

We are learning all about shapes in topic 14 this week.  It is fun to point out the shapes all around us! Our centers this week were a little more challenging, but fun.  We did some stamping and tallying of teen numbers, addition rainbows, dominoes with addition sentences, and then using some addition and subtraction poppers to make number sentences.

Writing/ Handwriting
We did some practice reviewing letters we have already learned in handwriting this week.  Our craft today also had a writing activity- they had to pick a couple facts we found about horses and write them on the horse craft.
