Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room!

  Reading
We read a story this week called Me on A Map.  It is about a little girl who makes a map of her room, town, state, and country.  The students learned some new vocabulary words- map, town, country, and state.

Jolly Phonics
We learned about the letters "a" and "t".  Ask your child about the sounds and actions that go with those letters.  We also had 1 popcorn word- a.  You probably noticed the yellow "a" in their green folder, that is for you to practice with them at home.  You can make flashcards, play games, anything you would like to practice the word.  We will be doing 2 words a week starting next week.  The students have a set of words here at school to practice with as well.

Math
This week we started our new math series.  You should have seen the pages coming home.  Those are what we do in class together.  Please look over those and practice anything you think your child might need work on.  This week we focused on counting and writing the numbers 1, 2, and 3.

Writing/ Handwriting
We did some pages in our handwriting book, practicing strokes and following directions for our handwriting series. We also did a journal on making a map of our bedroom.  We even drew a picture to go with it and shared them with the class.

We had a great second week- the students are doing really well and learning the routine of the classroom great! I look forward to informing you more about the kindergarten curriculum and procedure next week on Monday, September 8 at 6:00.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!  It sounds like a beautiful weekend!

Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room!

  Reading
We are done with our reading series for the school year so we worked on blends and digraphs this past week.  We are also making a special book for Father's Day. :) During daily 5 this week we worked on blends, digraphs and popcorn words.

Jolly Phonics
We focused on writing and saying popcorn words this week.

Math
This week for centers we played the game war with cards, wrote addition and subtraction sentences with dominoes, measured items in the class with meatballs, and did a subtraction game.  This was the last week that Mrs. Riadi came in to practice fluency with the students on their addition and subtraction facts.  She said the addition facts the students did really well on and the subtraction facts are the ones to really keep practicing over the summer.

Writing/ Handwriting
We did some more handwriting pages in our handwriting book lowercase letters u, i e, j,  and l.

Thanks to all the parents who volunteered to go on the zoo trip with us!  We had a beautiful day and the kids loved it!  They were tired! :)

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
