Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room!

Happy Fall!

Reading

We read a story this called Noisy Nora.  It is about a little mouse who is not getting enough attention at home and gets very upset and mad.  We worked on making connections to the other two stories that we read.  The students were also able to make connections to their home life with having brothers and sisters at home.  We shared some fun stories!  We also read a poem- Watching Falling Leaves.

Jolly Phonics

We added the letters "ai" this week to our sounds we learned.  Ask your child what the action is that goes with the sound.  We added two new popcorn words as well- "we" and "me".  Next week we will be adding 3 more popcorn words to our book!  Keep practicing your popcorn words at home.  Point out the popcorn words in stories you read to your children as well.  Then, when they are reading to self during daily 5 they will recognize those words and be proud that they can read them.

Handwriting

We did get to capital Y this week in handwriting.

Math

We did a couple days of centers this week using gumballs to count and some number sequencing up to 20.  We also worked on using the ten frames to make numbers from 11-20 and made number sentences using the ten frames as well.  We will be doing more of that next week as well.

Writing

We wrote, drew, and shared journals on favorite Halloween activity and what we did over the weekend.  We also had a Weekly Reader on Bears.

**Remember snack should be  healthy , such as fruit, vegetables, cheese, or crackers.  If you are sending a juice, make sure it is 100% juice.** Thanks!

Thank you to all of you who made it in for parent conferences this week- I know with busy schedules it is hard to get in that time.  However, I feel it is so important to your child to hear about them individually!  I enjoy getting feedback from you as well! :)

Happy Halloween!

Reading

We read a bunch of Halloween books this week and did some songs and activities with them.  The students had a lot of fun with these.  We did 2 poems this week called One, Two, Halloween Boo! and The 5 Little Pumpkins.

Jolly Phonics

We added the letters "b" and "j" this week to our sounds we learned.  Ask your child what the actions are that go with the sounds.  We added two new popcorn words as well- "at" and "on".  Keep practicing your popcorn words at home.  Point out the popcorn words in stories you read to your children as well.  Then, when they are reading to self during daily 5 they will recognize those words and be proud that they can read them.

Handwriting

We did not get to handwriting this week.  We will do some more letters next week.

Math

We did 2 days of centers this week doing Halloween activities.  The children practiced counting up to 40 and 50 with puzzles, a bat picture, and a pumpkin picture. We also did some more Halloween counting books that were added to read to self book bag.  Next week we are going to be practicing more with writing and identifying teen numbers.

Writing

We wrote and drew a picture about Dane who was our star student this week.  We also made a spooky spider for Halloween!
