Kindergarten News in Mrs.Olsen's Room!
Reading
We read Maisy's Pool this week. It was about a mouse and chick who are hot and fill up a wading pool, however, come across some problems along the way. It is cute and the students enjoyed it. There are many other Maisy books as well. We practiced the skill of retelling the story and learned 4 new vocabulary words- uncomfortable, comfortable, mend, and wade. We also read a poem this week called Where is My Gingerbread Man?
Jolly Phonics
We added the letters "w" and "v" this week to our sounds we learned. Ask your child what the action is that goes with the 2 sounds. We added three new popcorn words as well- "ran", "into", and "for". Point out the popcorn words in stories you read to your children as well. Then, when they are reading to self during daily 5 they will recognize those words and be proud that they can read them.
Handwriting
We did not get to any new letters this week in handwriting.
Math
We did lots of work this week on putting together numbers into number sentences and adding numbers together to make a ten on the ten frame.
Writing
We wrote and drew something we like about Silvana since she was our star student for the week. We also made some winter owls hanging up outside our room.
